Balut

One of the things that I always make sure to eat when I travel is Balut. I eat it at bus stopovers, i eat it at parks, I eat it at the beach... I always eat Balut when I see a vendor when I am out of town. Maybe Balut in the province is more delicious, or maybe because I don't see a Balut vendor in Manila everyday. Though there is a Balut vendor near my apartment here in Quezon City, but I don't go there and buy unless I crave for it.

My Balot moment at Baler, Aurora

balut (spelled standardized as balot) is a developing duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos (khai look ໄຂ່ລູກ in Lao), Cambodia (pong tia koon ពងទាកូន in Cambodian)[1] and Vietnam (trứng vịt lộn or hột vịt lộn in Vietnamese). They are often served with beer. The Tagalog and Malay word balut means "wrapped". Wikipedia

I know Balut is not a common food that other cultures eat, in fact I saw it being a challenge at a Fear Factor episode. But if you don't really want to eat Balut because of the duck fetus inside (yeah, what other term could I use to make it more palatable to you? haha), just put a little salt or vinegar, close your eyes and take a bite. After you sipped the juice, of course. And you'll know how yummy Balut is.

It tastes, and feels (in the mouth) a lot like Ox Brain. But cheaper, of course. For a dollar, you could already buy 3!
